There is a tool for Ubuntu called EasyUbuntu that can be used to install RealPlayer and configure the codecs.

$ tar jxvf EasyUbuntu-2.4beta4.tar.bz2
$ cd EasyUbuntu
$ sudo ./EasyUbuntu
